THEATER CREATION WORKSHOP: The comedy of abundance
With Albert Tola and Rodrigo García Olza in collaboration with Dau al Sec
The creation workshop The Comedy of Abundance seeks to reflect on abundance and scarcity in our lives, collecting both the reflections raised by contemporary thought, from depth psychology to quantum physics, as well as the witness of a theatrical genealogy that is It goes back to Greco-Latin comedies, to the comedy of entanglements or the comedy of errors, where pleasure and optimism celebrate life in a happy ending overflowing with banquets and celebrations. Through a sense of humor – and oscillation with its unexpected side – we want to pay attention to the pre-Christian cults of fertility and abundance, the festivals of Dionysus and the dithyrambs that originate our theater. We are going to invoke the horn of plenty, a symbol opposite to scarcity and exuberant like nature itself. Different abundances flourish in the works of Aristophanes, Plautus, Shakespeare, Goldoni or Lope de Vega and our research and theatrical creation will infuse the mechanisms of comedy and opulence with the help, on this occasion, of the muse. Talía, with the aim, like every year, that the work on interpretation and writing converges into a show.
Espai Philae’s Theatrical Creation workshops maintain the spirit of a professional production. Therefore, at the end of the process, we release our work in the Dau al Sec theater during the month of June 2025.
